In the world's steel, 60-70% is plate, and most of them are finished products through stamping. Automobile body, chassis, oil tank, radiator plate, boiler drum, container shell, iron core silicon steel sheet of motor and electric appliance are all stamped. There are also a large number of stamping parts in instruments, household appliances, bicycles, office machinery, household utensils and other products.

Compared with castings and forgings, stamping parts are thin, uniform, light and strong. Stamping can produce workpieces with reinforcing ribs, ribs, undulations or flanging that are difficult to manufacture by other methods to improve their rigidity. Due to the use of precision molds, the accuracy of the workpiece can reach the micron level, and the repetition accuracy is high and the specifications are consistent. Holes, sockets, bosses, etc. can be punched out.

Generally, cold stamping parts are no longer cut or only require a small amount of cutting. The precision and surface state of hot stamping parts are lower than that of cold stamping parts, but they are still better than castings and forgings, with less cutting processing.

Stamping is an efficient production method. With compound die, especially multi station progressive die, multiple stamping processes can be completed on one press to realize full-automatic production from strip uncoiling, leveling, blanking to forming and finishing. High production efficiency, good labor conditions, low production cost, and generally hundreds of pieces per minute.

Stamping is mainly classified by process and can be divided into two categories: separation process and forming process. The separation process is also called blanking, and its purpose is to separate the stamping parts from the sheet along a certain contour line, and to ensure the quality requirements of the separation section. The surface and internal properties of sheet metal for stamping have great influence on the quality of stamping products, and the thickness of stamping materials is required to be accurate and uniform; The surface is smooth and clean, without spots, scars, scratches, surface cracks, etc; The yield strength is uniform without obvious directionality; High uniform elongation; Low yield strength ratio; Low work hardening.
